Building permits drop
Parliamentary reporter Building permit issues slowed down in September, falling below 1983 levels for the first time in recent months. The estimated number of permits issued in September was 1836, down on both the September, 1983, level of 1905, and on the August, 1984, level of 1959. The drop was 3.6 per cent
on last year’s figure, according to figures given yesterday by the Statistics Department. It reflected a slowing-down in house permits issued by local authorities: 1247, compared with 1378 issued in September a year ago. The boom in dwelling permits noticed for the rest of 1984, however, . showed in figures for the year to September, when 21,775 permits
were issued, 29.5 per cent up on permits Issned in the year to September, 1983. Details showed that local authorities issued 1247 permits for houses in September this year, and 487 permits for flats (1378 and 469, respectively, for 1983). The Government issued permits for 59 houses and 43 flats (35 and 23, respectively, in 1983).
