Plane search fails
PA Wellington The private search for a light plane missing in the central North Island continued yesterday with five helicopters flying in marginal weather conditions. A decision on continuing the search would be made at the Raetihi search base this morning, said the director of Philips Electrical Industries, Mr R. E. Ramsay, last evening. The plane disappeared on a flight from Turangi to Palmerston North on Wednesday morning. On board were the managing director of Philips, Mr
Hugo Schut, aged 53, and another employee, Miss Janeane Robinson, aged 28. The Grumman Cheetah was piloted by Mr Paul Taylor, aged 31. All three are from Wellington. A spokesman from the Wellington search headquarters said that the weather yesterday was unsuitable for fixed-wing flying, with a low cloud base, some turbulence, and rain. The searchers followed several leads from members of the public responding to appeals for information, but each likely area searched produced nothing, he said.
