General forecast: An anticyclone over New Zealand is moving slowly north-east, while a weakening cold front is moving slowly on to the south-west of the country. District forecasts: Canterbury: Moderate north-easterlies; fine weather, variable high cloud, but some light rain about the Alps. Marlborough: Moderate northerlies about the Sounds; elsewhere light winds apart from coastal sea breezes; fine and mild. Nelson: Moderate northerlies; fine, mild. Buller: Becoming cloudy, moderate northerlies.

Westland: Moderate northerly winds; cloudy with scattered light rain. Tomorrow: Coastal southwesterlies, some showers in Canterbury, inland light winds, mainly fine; cool southerlies, coastal rain in Marlborough; southerlies, scattered rain clearing in Nelson and Buller, moderate westerlies, mainly fine in Westland.
