L.P.G. storage approved

Two liquefied petroleum gas storage vessels, a caravan park, and a veterinarian’s surgery have been approved by the Christchurch City Council’s townplanning committee. The Edgeware Service Station, in Edgeware Road, and Raceway Motors, Ltd, in Lincoln Road, have been granted permission to build and use storage vessels for L.P.G.

The Edgeware Service Station’s application for a two-tonne tank connected by an underground pipe to a

dispenser beneath the service station was approved although an earlier application by the station for a larger tank had been rejected. Conditions relating to safety and the relocation of existing services at the garage were imposed by the town-planning hearings panel.

Similar conditions were imposed on the application by Raceway Motors. An application by R. and B. Humphries to establish a caravan park at Bucklands

Motel in Pages Road was approved. The caravan park site is adjacent to the motel property and would be separated from adjacent houses by a “proposed residential site.” The site would take 10 caravans, with planting separating each site. One objection by a neighbour was received. The objector did not want a house built on the residential site next to his home. Conditions imposed on the application included the retention of mature trees on

the site, adherence to a defined landscape plan, installation of crossings, and the obtaining of a caravan licence. Mr C. L. Broad has been given permission to establish a veterinary clinic at 83 Wainoni Road. The land is zoned Residential 1 but is 135 m from a commercial zone. The town-planning committee decided that the clinic would be an asset to the area. No objection to the application was received.
