Six golfers unbeaten
Two former Canterbury representatives, John Allin and John Parlane, and one of the most consistent members of the Waimairi Beach team in recent years, Don Pickering, are the only three golfers with the perfect score of five wins after as many rounds in the Woodward Cup inter-club championship. Another three golfers, however, still have unbeaten
records after the five rounds. The Central Canterbury junior, Brett Chambers, has successfully slotted into the bottom position, winning four matches and halving the other, while Neville Brightwell (Templeton) has had three wins and two halves, and the lefthanded John Reid (North Canterbury) has recorded two wins and three halves.
At stake for the player with the best individual record is the Stan Rich salver, and Pariane has already shared that trophy, with seven wins and two halves from nine games in 1982.
Allin, the North Canterbury captain, has played in the competition for only one of the last four years. ' The ginger-haired No. 4 has included three Canterbury squad representatives, Joe ’ Whitaker, Robert McDonald and Ray Finlay, among his victims and is producing the fighting form which won him provincial honours in the late 19705. Pickering is surprisingly low in the Waimairi order consideraing his excellent record for the last two seasons. A regular member of the side for the last seven years, Pickering had an unimpressive result sheet for the first four years. In 1982, however, he had < five wins from six matches and last year he gained four wins ana two halves from nine contests.
