Barley Society’s final feed price
The South Island Barley Society has announced a final feed price of $200.17 delivered August. All growers still holding undelivered barley will be receiving substantial progress payments this week. Some undelivered feed barley was still on farms in North Canterbury, said the society’s general manager, Mr Steve Connell, but growers holding this as of last Friday would receive a progress payment of $l9O a tonne on 90 per cent of the declared tonnage. They would continue to receive additional storage increment until it was shipped. In March, the society predicted a final feed price of between $lBO and $lB5 a
tonne. The final price equated to $190.17 delivered March because the storage increment on feed barley was $2 a tonne per month.
Generally, 1984 had been a satisfactory trading year for the society with both pools performing to grower expectations, Mr Connell said.
The malting pool was yet to be finalised, but as announced, the interim price had been increased from $l3O a tonne to $lBO a tonne. Growers still holding malting barley would also receive a progress payment of $lBO a tonne for 90 per cent of the declared tonnage yet to be delivered as at September 21.
