Egg throwing at school
Sir,—ln reply to M. J. Minehan on the egg throwing at Hagley High School, the correspondent should get the facts straight. If the Combined Co-operative Distributors, Ltd, had done as suggested with the second-grade eggs, a lot of elderly people could be ill with food poisoning. So what better way to use the eggs (which would have gone to waste anyway) than to raise money so that the Hagley pupils can have the equipment to do some of the planned lunch-time activities. The idea that this activity encourages vandalism and disrespect to our adults is totally wrong. At Hagley punishment is imposed on anyone who vandalises anything round the school and we are encouraged to respect our elders. This lunch-time activity was enjoyable for both the staff and the pupils. Even though this may seem disrespectful it brings the teacher-pupil relationship closer, while maintaining respect for each other. — Yours, etc., M. J. COUPER. September 27, 1984.
