Boxing

,«Sir,—l read today (September ■2l) ./Kevin Barry's -reply/ to: the suggestion that boxing be banned in New Zealand. I support all he says that the administrators have done to protect boxers. Although only he can state the effect of the late punch by Evander Holyfield his word is good enough for me. All qualified New Zealand referees are instructed that their first and most important duty and care is the welfare and protection at all times of the boxers and to prevent a weak boxer from taking any unnecessary punishment.—Yours, etc., M. V. DRURY,

Convener of referees and judges, Canterbury and , Ashburton. September 21, 1984.
