NZI creates new position
NZI Corporation, Ltd, has made management changes to more closely co-ordinate the activity of the company’s general insurance division in both New Zealand and Australia.
The appointments, based on New Zealand staff now in Australia, will see a former New Zealand general manager, Mr Don Malcolm, take up a new head office appointment as the deputy chief general manager responsible for Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Malcolm was appointed general manager to Australia in 1982 following the merger of New Zealand Insurance and South British Insurance. Another New Zealander to be promoted is Mr Bob Scott who becomes the general manager (Australia).. “The new management appointments follow three years of consolidation in both countries which has now resulted in a period of strong, directed growth,” NZI says. Earlier this month, the group announced that its first quarter net earnings had doubled compared with the same period last year. The company says that
while operations in New Zealand and Australia are necessarily different they are not unique and the market, customer and staff profiles in both countries is remarkably similar. NZI says the appointment of Mr Malcom, to a position of over-all responsibility for general insurance in both Australia and New Zealand will enable it to maximise management talent, marketing and product development resources in both countries.
