PA Wellington The Address-in-Reply debate will continue next week with provision for discussion of private members’ notices of motion, said the Leader of the House, Mr Palmer, when Parliament sat at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. Ministerial replies to questions will be given on Wednesday afternoon and local bills on Thursday afternoon. Mr Palmer and the Acting Leader of the Opposition, Mr McLay, wished the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, a safe and succesful overseas trip. After his return, time would be set aside for a foreign affairs debate, Mr Palmerj said. Members presented two petitions. ‘
Mr' N. P. H. Jones (Nat., Invercargill) presented the petition of the 'Returned Services’ Association calling for compensation for service-re-lated injuries not covered by the Accident Compensation Corporation to be included in the War Pensions Act. Mr D. W. A.MarsHall (Nat., Rangitikei) presented >the peti-
tion of the Oroua County Council calling for the amendment of the Local Government Act to all united councils to be optional. The Minister of Health, Dr Bassett, presented the Medical Research Council’s annual report. Members gave eight notices of motion. Ministers answered 12 questions. The Disabled Persons Community Welfare Amendment Bill was introduced by Mr V. S. Young (Nat., Waitotara) and referred to the Health and Welfare Select Committee. The Penal Institutions Bill was introduced by Mr McLay and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee.
Mr McLay gave an explanation to Parliament'about his comments on the appointment of Mr Hugh Rennie as chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation. The Plant Varieties Bill was introduced by Mr lan McLean (Nat., Tarawera) and referred to the Lands arid Agriculture ; Select Committee. ; The Minister of Broadcasting, Mr Hunt, made a Ministerial statement, tp Parliament in response to comments made by Mr McLay on the appointment of Mr Rennie as chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation. The Adult Adoption Information Bill was introduced by Ms Fran Wilde, and referred to the Statutes Revision Select Committee. The Forests (KaimaiMamaku State . Forest Park) Amendment Bill was introduced by Mr C. B. Townshend (Nat., Kaimai) and referred to the Lands and Agriculture Select Committee.
