Tunnel bicycle trip
Sir,-On behalf of the Canterbury Cyclists’ Association I thank Morag Godfrey for her letter of appreciation. We felt that all 200
cyclists who cycled through the Christchurch-Lyttelton road tunnel and around the scenic harbour bays with us earlier this month had enjoyed the experience, but it was gratifying to read her letter in your columns. I also thank the Ministry of Works for permission to use the tunnel, and* the many motorists who patiently waited for up to 15 minutes while the tunnel was closed. Ms Godfrey and others may wish to participate in another of our social bike rides. We will again be helping Summer Times open festivities on Sunday, December 16, with their Pedal to the Park and in February our annual “Press” Fun Ride is scheduled. The road tunnel ride seems likely to be an annual excursion. — Yours, etc., GRANT O’BRIEN, President, Canterbury Cyclists’ Assn. September 17, 1984.
