Bus driver refused licence

PA Hamilton A Whangamata schoolbus driver, Mr Gordon Henry, has failed in his bid in the District Court at Hamilton for conditional restoration of part of his driver’s licence.

Mr Henry’s licence was revoked six months ago on the ground that he was medically unfit to drive. Some time earlier Mr Henry had undergone major heart surgery. He continued to drive buses and efforts by a Whangamata doctor, Dr lan Duncan, to stop him led to a row between the doctor and the New Zealand Medical Council.

Subsequently, Mr Henry’s licence was revoked by the Secretary for Transport. Mr Henry, represented'by Mr John Rennie, had sought a conditional licence to drive empty buses to and from a service station for fuelling and maintenance. Judge Richardson ruled that he had no jurisdiction to grant a conditional use.

The Ministry of Transport was represented by Mr David Wilson.
