M.P. to have time?

By

MICHAEL HANNAH

in Wellington Giving the National member of Parliament for Invercargill, Mr Norman Jones, three minutes of speaking time at the Economic Summit Conference might be a “small price” to pay for his co-operation, said a Government Minister yesterday. Mr Jones has been reported as saying he will give up his threat to sit in his Parliamentary seat throughout the conference if he is given three minutes speaking time. The Minister responsible for organising the conference, Mr Caygill, said Mr Jones’ comment was news to him, but it seemed a small price to pay. Organisers have placed the chairman of the conference steering committee, Mr Ron Trotter, in Mr Jones’s seat. Asked whether they had another seat in reserve for Mr Trotter should Mr Jones pursue his protest, Mr Caygill said it did not greatly worry him. “I think we are going to let that situation take its natural course,” he said.
