Scholarships in human relations awarded

PA Wellington Eight Prince Philip Scholarships in Human Relations have been awarded by the Industrial Relations Foundation, says the Minister of Labour, Mr Rodger. The scholarships, tenable in New Zealand or overseas for research into or study of human relations in industry, have been awarded to: Peter Alexander, of Hamilton, head of the business studies department at Waikato Technical Institute, who will study industrial relations in Europe. Doris Valerie Bonner, of Auckland, who is doing a two-year course in personnel management and industrial relations at Auckland University. Kate Clark, of Wellington, general secretary of the

Kindergarten Teachers’ Association, who will travel to the United States to study industrial relations in the early childhood education sector.

Peter Franks, of Wellington, who has been given some assistance towards researching the history of the Wellington Clerical Workers’ Union.

Anne Knowles, of Wellington, a legal advocate for the Freezing Companies Association, who will meet people involved in the meat freezing industry in Britain and Ireland.

Peter McKinlay, of Wellington, chairman of the Cooperative Enterprises Loans Trust, who will study worker co-operatives in Europe. Robert Reid, of Wellington, who will travel through

Europe and Asia researching the response of trade unions to problems caused by unemployment. James Wilson, of Auckland, an industrial officer for the Northern Local Government Officers’ Union, who will attend trade union education courses at Clyde Cameron College, Australia. .

Mr Rodger said the aim of the Industrial Relations Foundation, set up in 1977 to coincide with the Royal visit, was to provide education, training arid research to promote better iridustrial relations in New Zealand. Trustees of the foundation are Mr Rodger, Messrs Garry Tait and Jim Rowe (Employers’ Federation), and Messrs Jim Knox and Ken Douglas (Federation of Labour).
