Spring’s here

The Arts Employment Scheme groups have combined their talents with the City Council’s parks and recreation department to present a nine day celebration of spring entitled “Spring’s Here.” “We have endeavoured to offer the widest choice of entertainment possible, appealing to a broad cross section of the community,” said one of the organisers, Mark Spittai. Centred in the Botanical Gardens on the daffodil lawns by the Nurses’ Hostel, “Spring’s Here” will feature such renowned artists as Malcolm McNeil, the Pete Rainey Big Band, Janice Gray and Liz Braggins, Beyond a Joke, and the Moving Company, as well as

many other top-class performing groups. Professional and non-pro-fessional entertainers are being featured during the promotion. Children have been especially catered for with performances by Puppet in hand and Natural Magic as well as new games. The Robert McDougall Art Gallery will present an exhibition of lithographs and etchings in a temporary gallery set up on the daffodil lawns. Facepainting will also be a part of the display. “Spring’s Here” will run from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at week-ends and 12 noon to 2 p.m. week-days. The festival will run from September 15 to 23.
