Second tour for McEwan
Paul McEwan, the outstanding Canterbury batsman of last summer, will tour Zimbabwe, as well-as Pakistan, with the New Zealand cricket team later this year. - ■ $ ■ •' He has been called into the team in place of Martin Crowe, who has made himself unavailable for the tour.
McEwan had an excellent season for Canterbury and was named in the team for Pakistan. That tour will take place shortly after the conclusion of New Zealand’s first official tour of Zimbabwe, next month. McEwan and the captain, Jeff Crowe, are the only players confirmed to make the Pakistan trip as well, but three players from the Zimbabwe tour will be added to the 12 already chosen for Pakistan, depending on performances. Two managerial appointments were also confirmed at the New Zealand Cricket Council’s meeting in Wellington over the week-end. The manager for the New
Zealand team,, which will take part in the Benson and Hedges world championship series in Australia in February and March next year will be the chairman of the Canterbury Cricket Association, Mr Alby Duckmanton.
Dr John Heslop, of Dunedin, has been appointed manager of the New Zealand team to tour the West Indies late next year.
