Queen’s Pal well forward
The talented Riccartontralned mare, Queen’s Pal, appeared well forward to resume racing when she ran a fine third over 1200 m at the Riccarton Turf Club’s trials at Ashburton on Saturday. The daughter of Palatable and Lomond Queen settled well off the pace in the open sprint trial but made up many lengths in the run home to finish in behind Mighty Million and Buffy Beaufort
Queen’s Pa! is expected to have her next start in the 1600 m D. P. Wilson Memorial Handicap on the first day of the Otago Racing Club’s meeting at Wingatui on September 22.
Sea Poppy and the impeccably bred Tui’s Imp provided the other highlights of Saturday’s trials. Sea Poppy had too much

Tui’s Imp (Imposing— Tui’s Lass), a member of Helen Preston’s team, ran the 1200 m of her qualifying trial in lmin 12575, deadheating with the Neil Coul-beck-trained Saraim. The John Parsons-trained Sparkling Eyes (Rangong— Eager Eyes) was the fastest qualifier on Saturday, recording a smart lmin 11.93 s for the 1200 m. Other winners were Rojeeni (1200 m qualifying heat), Oak King (1200 m qualifying heat), Sky Rocket (two-year-old parade), an unnamed Rebec filly (650 m catchweight), Miss Tryphena Bay (650 m catchweight), Samazaan (1600 m qualifying heat) and Young Nick (1200 m
