A task force to work on the details of implementing the Government’s proposals for trade union education is being set up. • This honours an election promise for education programmes for trade union members, including paid educational leave. Labour , also promised to provide education about trade unions for use by schools, radio and television. A continuing education officer at Waikato University, Mr N. Law, has been appointed by the Government to lead the task force. Mr Law has had experience in trade union educa-
tion, including study in the United States and a study tour last year of trade union education work in Britain and Sweden and at the International Labour Organisation. The Minister of Labour, Mr Rodger, and the Minister of Education, Mr Marshall, said other members of the task force would be appointed after discussions with the Combined. State Unions and the Federation of Labour.
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of Labour, Mr Isbey, would supervise the work of the task force, they said. The task force will report back to them by January 31, 1985.
