WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD ROTORUA HOSPITAL: DIRECTOR - ACUTE PSYCHIATRIC UNIT Qualifications: Specialist. Duties: Whole time, but may be part time by negotiation. A new Acute Psychiatric Unit of 32 beds has recently been opened and the new appointee would work with the present team of specialist psychiatrist, registrar, house surgeon and the paramedical back-up of clinical psychologist, and psychiatric social workers. The inherent philosophy of the unit is to provide a good community psychiatric service with emphasis on day care facilities. , ‘ ■ SPECIALIST PHYSICIAN ROTORUA HOSPITALS A new position has been created at the Rotorua and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals for a Specialist Physician. The successful applicant will be required to have a special interest In the care of the elderly and will be responsible for this aspect of medical care In the two hospitals. Currently there are 50 long-stay beds at Rotorua Hospital; assessment is carried out in the acute medical wards; there is a 58-bed residential home and a day-hospltal at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Planning is proceeding for relocation of the present long-stay beds and for provision of an assessment and rehabilitation ward. The appointee will take part In the roster for admission of acute medical cases. The position is whole time initially, but reduction to part time could be negotiated in the future. PSYCHOLOGIST - CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE: This is a full time position working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team with the developmental problems of childhood. The psychologist would undertake the counselling of children and parents with psycho-social problems, which may be secondary to a handicapping condition. The psychologist would also undertake the assessment of children from 2)4 to 15 years of age. The work would require a familiarity with the main individual tests of intelligence, group tests of achievement ana diagnosis in the basic school subjects. An awareness of the problems associated with specific learning difficulty and similar disorders would be an advantage, as would some teaching experience.
