Restoration course at museum
Books and pamphlets that were damaged during a flood at the Canterbury Museum 12 months ago will next month be used during a workshop on the preservation of archives.
The water-damaged books and pamphlets, shown with the museum’s librarian, Mrs Josie Laing, have been deep-frozen since then, awaiting restoration.
They will be used as illustrations for a workshop on disaster preparedness, which will be held at the museum to teach people concerned with the preservation of archives on how to deal with fire and flood damage.
Invitations to the workshop have been sent to libraries, museums, local bodies, and Government departments known to hold valuable cultural materials.
The workshop will be presented by staff of the conservation unit of the National Library in Wellington..
