Electronics and computer supplier
Dick Smith Electronics has at last opened a store in Christchurch. The electronics and computer wholesaler, retailer and mail' order supplier opens for business today on the corner of Bealey Avenue and Victoria Street (in premises previously occupied by a bean bag shop).
Dick Smith Electronics is well known throughout Australasia for its self-service, supermarket-type shops, stocking a large range of electronics equipment and its bright mail order catalogues. Word has already got around that the store was opening, says the company’s national retail manager, Mr John Gourley. “It’s amazing the number
of ham radio enthusiasts who have come in over the last three weeks as we have been setting the shop up and said ‘good to see you down here’, ” Mr Gourley said. Last week, the bright red, yellow and green wall fittings were being completed to hold the stock of electronic components, electronic hardware, tools, books, TV accessories, telephone answering machines, kitsets, electronic project kits, home computers and many other electronicrelated goods.
Dick Smith Electronics stocks over 2500 products, more than 500 of which have been added to the catalogue this year. Many of the new products are bought from New Zealand sup-
pliers, a practice which the company is anxious to encourage.
Electronics and computer hobbyists and enthusiasts from the top half of the South Island are expected to shop at the new store, attracted by Dick Smith’s motto: “Good quality products at a reasonable price.”
The 130 square metre store has four car parks at the back (entered from Bealey Avenue) for customer parking.
Products sold in the store will also be fully serviced by Dick Smith Electronics. A regular air courier service will be used to send products to and from the Auckland service depot.
