Review possible after inquiry
PA Auckland The Marsden Point refinery expansion contract may be reviewed if a commission of inquiry finds the contractors to blame for delays, said the Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard. After meeting representatives from Marsden Refinery Constructors, he said he stuck by his assertion that the contractors should take responsibility for some of the problems on the site. Soon after becoming Minister, he said he would consider fixing an upper limit for the project cost and the contractors should be liable
for increases above that Mr Tizard said he still had that in mind but would wait for the findings of the commission of inquiry into industrial relations at the project “If this inquiry finds the contractors substantially at fault that would mean some of the blame for the delays must fall on them. “Any examination of the contract would have to follow the findings of this industrial inquiry.” The project was due to end next year and cost $1.3 billion but that has changed to March, 1986, and increased to $1.6 billion.
