Helicopter pilot injured
PA Wellington A helicopter pilot is in Whakatane Hospital with a suspected broken pelvis after a crash near Wairata, in the Waioeka Gorge, on Saturday. The pilot, a deerrecoverer, Christopher Podjursky, of Opotiki, was found near his helicopter early yesterday by air rescuers who had called off their search on Saturday evening.
His passenger, Barry Carruthers, also of Opotiki, who had started to walk out of the bush to get belp, was also picked up by the rescue party. The machine crashed near Wairata, 40km south of Opotiki, about 4 pun.
