Arrest after blaze

The Christchurch police have arrested a man in connection with a fire at the City Mission in Hereford Street early on Saturday morning. The man will appear in the District Court in Christchurch this morning on a charge of arson. The fire caused 52500 damage to a shed at the

back of one of the mission’s halfway houses for alcholics, a spokesman said.

A police spokesman said yesterday that an accelerant had been used to light the fire, because the grass around the shed was burning.

“Green grass does not burn by itself,” he said.
