NZPA-AFP Rio de Janeiro The fate of the world’s biggest football ground, the 200,000 capacity Maracana stadium, is expected to be decided before the end of the month.
Engineers fear the circular roof 'is in danger of collapsing after discovering badly corroded steel struts. The first warning signals came in J 972. Two years later part of the roof fell in but, with no-one in the stadium at the time, the incident was hushed up until 1976. 1
