BNZ in money market move

The Bank of New Zealand is ready to accept shortterm deposits, either at call, or for seven days and then at call, the general manager, Mr W. J. Shaw, announced yesterday. He said that these facilities would be available for deposits of $lOO,OOO and more, and that quotations could be obtained from BNZ branches. This step followed moves recently taken by the Government to abolish restrictions requiring banks to accept deposits for terms of no less than. 30 days. Mr Shaw said that for

smaller deposits, the bank was offering personal customers auto-access accounts, where deposits would earn interest on a daily basis, currently 10 per cent a year, and funds would be available at call. He said that up until now, funds in these accounts had to be deposited for 30 days before interest was payable. Mr Shaw said that options regarding cheque accounts and 3 per cent savings accounts were being considered. The BNZ would make further announcements about these facilities soon.
