Sinclair’s rates paid

PA Auckland Rates and arrears amounting to $4668 in respect to the Okiato house of the late Alexander Sinclair had been paid to the Bay of Islands County Council, a council officer confirmed yesterday. The council’s general manager, Mr Maurice Plowright, said the total amount owing in rates by the former drugs boss, including the 10 per cent

penalty, had been paid within the last two weeks. Mr Plowright declined to say who had paid the rates, but the person concerned might have been an agent acting for Sinclair’s affairs. Nor would Mr Plowright say whether the council would' now withdraw its proposal to impose a rating sale on the house. The council, he said, still wanted to recover the legal costs involved in the recovery of the rates.
