Bank talks demanded

PA Wellington The Bank Officers’ Union has told the Bankers’ Association that proposed changes to opening hours must be the subject of negotiation before September 11.

After a national management committee meeting yesterday, the union’s president, Ms Angela Foulkes, said the union’s “bottom

line” involved negotiation on the proposed changes. “We want to talk to them next week. We want the parameters for any further extensions to be included in these negotiations,” Ms Foulkes said. From September 11, the banks intend extending opening hours to between 9 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. Earlier this week, the

Bankers’ Association told the union that it would be prepared to meet to discuss any additional points not covered in a meeting between the parties on August 15.

Ms Foulkes said that if the union did not get what it wanted in next week’s possible negotiations, planned stop-work meetings for September 11 would proceed. .
