Bottle Creek bard
New Zealand’s “bottlecreek bard,” Sam Hunt, will perform in Christchurch today and tomorrow. The concerts will be the last in New Zealand before he flies to Australia for a five-week tour. Sam Hunt, renowned for his drainpipe trousers, beer consumption and rasping rendition of his spell-binding poems, has gained some notoriety overseas. His appearance in the Australian television series, “Kiwis,” provoked intense interest on both sides of the Tasman. As a result he has been lined up to perform in Sydney’s top venue, Kinsellas, and in Melbourne, next month. His reputation has also touched the United States, where he performed last year. Sam Hunt plans to make a return visit next April. After that, there are high hopes of travelling to the Edinburgh Festival, and touring New Zealand with Liverpool poet Roger
McGough. Cantabrians can catch this contemporary trouba-
dour in the Limes Room at the Christchurch Town Hall, at 8 o’clock both evenings.
