Secondary school principals
Sir, — Secondary school principals were given a gratuitous black mark on their annual report at the recent Post Primary Teachers’ Association Conference for not trying hard enough to support direct action. Their understandable lack of
enthusiasm for involving pupils in such action over the issue of University Entrance no doubt springs from an awareness that such changes ought to involve the whole community in a process of consultation and education not clouded by intemperate unilateral action. What needs reviewing is not the role of principals, as the conference decided, but the principles on which the P.P.T.A. bases its actions where matters of wide community importance are involved. — Yours, etc., LYALL LUKEY. August 27, 1984.
