Youth to face charge

The Christchurch police will charge a youth in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Fendalton early on Sunday morning. A cyclist, Peter John Seward, aged 30, of Bishopdale, was seriously injured when he was hit by a car in Clyde Road. The car then turned left into Jeffreys Road.

Mr Seward was reported seriously ill in the intensive care unit at Christchurch Hospital last evening. Senior-Sergeant Ted Yaxley said that the police had yesterday afternoon found the car involved in the accident.

A Burnside youth, aged 17, was interviewed and would be charged in connection with the accident.

Senior-Sergeant Yaxley said that the police had traced the car after studying debris left at the scene of the accident and also as a result of help from the public.
