Akaroa seeks rubbish ideas
The Akaroa County Council has called for suggestions from ratepayers on the disposal of the county’s rubbish. Most of the rubbish is burnt in the Akaroa township. The rest is dumped at the Kaik Road tip, which is expected to be filled in less than 10 years. The County Chairman, Mr I. C. Harris, said that a central site was sought to replace the Kaik Road dump. Because of the geography of Akaroa Harbour, it was virtually impossible to keep a dump at a distance from everyone. “Wherever we decide to dump, some people will be upset,” he said. Public relations The County Clerk, Mr L. W. M. Graham, will spend one afternoon everyxtwp weeks at an infor|uation centre in Akaroa township.
The move, which will be on trial for three months, will provide information to Akaroa residents unable to visit the county offices at Duvauchelle. Mr Graham said that the centre, which he planned to set up in the Akaroa Library, should be of special benefit to elderly residents.
