Grape growers call for unity

A strong sense of unity, improved research, and industry training would be a priority for the Grape Growers’ Council, said its new president, Mr Ross Goodin, of Te Kauwhata, in Wellington recently. Involved with agriculture for the last 19 years, Mr Goodin was a founder member of Te Kauwhata Grape Growers’ Association and its chairman for four years. Mr Goodin commented on the need for stabilisation in the grape growing and wine making industry. It was important to have unity among growers based on a sound

representative organisation which would, in close association with the Wine Institute, work together to further the productivity of quality wines for the New Zealand and overseas markets. Clear evidence had been presented showing a need for a national funding system, to promote the research requirement of the grape growing industry, provide training schemes and establish a central administrative organisation based at Agriculture House in Wellington, he said.
