Volume up, issues down
Although share volume passed the 8M mark on a firmer New Zealand Stock Exchange yesterday, the number of issues traded was quieter. The volume was worth SI9M, and was accounted for by two sales —3.7 M Aurora shares to Feltex at a steady 240 c, and more than 3M Feltex shares at 230 c to Chase Corporation. Feltex closed at 348 c for a gain of 13c. Chemby gained 15c to 145 c after news that the Unity group of companies had taken a majority shareholding. Among the market leaders, Fletcher Challenge, NZ Forest Products, and NZI Corporation were firmer but Ceramco, Goodman, and UEB were easier. In the mining and oil sector, New Zealand Goldfields stood out on a 15c loss. The Barclays industrial index rose 5.41 points to 1249.77.
