Speeding trucks frighten judge

PA Auckland Speeding trucks have “frightened the life” out of Judge Graham on Auckland’s southern motorway and errant truck-drivers appearing before him in South Auckland’s District Courts may be forced to sit a driving test again as well as

facing fines and other sentences, the Judge said in an interview. While travelling from his Mount Albert home to the courts he presides over at Otahuhu and Papakura, Judge Graham clocks up many kilometres on the motorway. “I have been passed by

trucks doing more than UOkm/h with their trailers fishtailing,” he said. “It is a shocking problem. It is a wonder there are not more accidents involving trucks. “Those who persistently disregard the laws relating to speed and road courtesy may well find that the courts are concerned that

they are fit to hold a driver’s licence.” The Judge had already made two truck-drivers go through the driving test again. “It is a useful penalty to have available when I am tossing up whether to disqualify them," he said.
