Fainthearted feminism

"Conversations with a Fainthearted Feminist” is the Court Theatre’s guest production at the Studio from Saturday. Heather Lindsay appears in this solo presentation from Wellington’s Circa Theatre. The play is a stage dramatisation by Heather Lindsay of Jill Tweedie’s book, “Letters from a Fainthearted Feminist.” Miss Lindsay plays Martha, a second-time married housewife and mother of two teenagers and newish baby. Martha is 38, longs to put into practice the precepts of the Women’s Movement, but is thwarted at every turn. The audience eavesdrops on' hr conversations with Mary, her fiery feminist friend.

Heather Lindsay is based in Auckland, but has appeared with many New Zealand theatres, as well as on television as Christine Lowatz in “Close to Home” and presenter/interviewer for Northern Television’s 11 a.m. In her real life role of housewife and mother, Miss Lindsay decided to adapt Jill Tweedie’s book which she feels is a very relevant and much needed humorous approach to the whole area of feminism. The director of “Conversations with a Fainthearted Feminist” is Susan Wilson, a founder member of Circa Theatre. Grant Tilly has designed the set. “Conversations with a Fainthearted Feminist”

plays in the Court Studio at 8.15 p.m. from August 25 to September 8.
