Boy aged five sets room on fire

PA Hamilton A Hamilton five-year-old lit a fire in his bedroom on Sunday because he wanted to see the fire engines arrive. His mother, Rose Linstead, said that her son, Raymond, admitted he had deliberately lit the fire “to see the fire lights flicking.” He had been on a recent trip through the Hamilton Fire Station. Mrs Linstead and her husband, Ken, were thankful yesterday that nobody was hurt in the blaze. Mr Linstead was asleep in the room next to Raymond’s second-floor bedroom when the smell of smoke awakened him soon after 6 p.m. Thinking Raymond was still asleep in his room, Mr Linstead rushed out and flung the boy’s door open. He was greeted by a blast of flame and hot air. As he raised his hand in front of his eyes, a window exploded, sending a piece of hot glass into his palm. He was driven back by the heat and ran downstairs.
