Montrose making good progress
Montrose, the winner of six races, including four in succession, last season showed that she was making good progress in preparation for a spring campaign when she was successful at the workouts held at Rangiora on Sunday. She took the lead with 900 m to run and completed 2600 m in 3min 37.65, sprinting her final 800 m in Imin 1.55, and her last 400 m in 29.85. Montrose had plenty in reserve at the finish where she had a length to spare over Kotare Tyrone, with Ruthless running on late for third three lengths back, with two lengths to Lord Louie.- —
Sly Robin returned 3min 33.7 s for 2600 m, the last 800 m in Imin 0.5 s and the final 400 m in 29.85, when he beat Isel, Vicki McQuade and Grand Gesture in a race for Cl and C2 pacers. Catalpa (3min 435), Texaco (3min 43.55) and Castle Prince (3min 395) were other winners. lan Mac, a gelding by El Patron from Star Nurse in Bill McDonald’s team, won the parade for two-year-olds, returning 2min 55s for the 2000 m, the last 800 m in Imin ss. He won by a neck from Trenet, a colt by Out to Win from Regal Cheval, with a head to Affirmative, a gelding by Mark Lobell
