L.P.G. ship expected this week-end

The liquefied petroleum tanker Tarihiko is due to make her maiden call at Lyttelton on August 26 for the commissioning of the new L.P.G. facility. The ship’s arrival is still tentative out Liquigas hopes all facilities will be ready by the end of this week for the first shipment. The Tarihiko is tied up at the Dunedin depot and is expected to sail for New Plymouth this week to load her Lyttelton-bound cargo. The ship will be at Lyttelton for about three days to discharge just under 1006 tonnes of gas. The 23,582-ton oil tanker Chevron Pacific is making her first call at Lyttelton to restock falling supplies of diesel in Christchurch. The tanker was built in 1983 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and is owned by the Chevron Shipping Company. She will discharge about 18,000 tonnes , of diesel from Singapore and sails for Napier this morning where she will discharge an additional 14,000 tonnes. At the Port of Timaru, the Al Sarnie is due to sail for Singapore today with her cargo of barley. The vessel is owned by the Gokal Shipping Company of Pakistan and has a crew of 27. She was built in Tokyo in 1979 and has three sister ships, the Al Sadiq, Al Salaam and Al Samad. The Gokal company owns about 90 vessels, mostly bulk and general cargo ships. The Al Samie has five holds, each with its own 15-ton horizontal hydraulic crane. She is on her first call to Timaru, where she uplifted about 16,000 tonnes of barley.
