Lead in petrol
Sir,—l support T. R. Loudon (August 9) on what he says about the health scandals we have had this century, especially in regard to the continuing use of lead in petrol. Lead has a stupefying effect on human beings and its long-term effects are deadly. In one part of the United States when lead was banned from petrol, the average lead concentration in humans immediately dropped by 36 per cent. This speaks for itself. — Yours, etc S. MARRIOTT. August 19, 1984.
