United suffers loss
The prospects of Laurie Blyth guiding Christchurch Brother United to its fourth Rothmans Soccer League championship in his first year as coach plummeted yesterday in Auckland. Unitea went down, 1-0, to Papatoetoe, its closest rival for second place behind the league leader, Gisborne City. That result leaves United nine points behind Gisborne, with eight rounds remaining. It will take a dramatic falling off in form from Gisborne if United is to get a look in for the title. Gisborne finishes the league with four of its last five games at home, and it will
take an outstanding team to beat it at its Childers Road ground. There was high drama in Dunedin yesterday. Dunedin City scored six times against an undisciplined Napier City Rovers, giving it 10 goals in its last two league matches. The Napier midfielder, Terry Emms, was sent off • in the first half for persistent dissent, then the Napier coach, Roger Wilkinson, was sent from the sideline by the referee, Ken Copland, for remarks he made after the dismissal. Gisborne City 3 (Stuart Owen, Grant Turner, Jim Doherty), National Mutual Miramar 0. Half-time 1-0.
Papatoetoe 1 (Mark Slane), Christchurch Brother United 0. Half-time 0-0. Hanimex-North Shore 0, Manurewa 0. Wellington Diamond United 0, Mount Wellington 0. Dunedin City 6 (Gary Clark two, Andy Deeley two, Stuart Dunbar, Dave Bradley), Napier City Rovers 1 (Paul Halford penalty). Half-time 3-0. ROTHMANS LEAGUE
