Attendant hurt in knife attack
PA Hamilton A Ngaruawahia petrol station attendant was left bleeding from a knife wound after two armed robbers escaped with the station’s takings early yesterday morning. The station’s Dobermann guard dog slept through the drama. However, the police hunt for the robbers lasted only about 10 minutes. They stopped a car at Te Rapa, near Hamilton, and arrested two men. Mr Richard Carey was working alone in the town’s all-night station at 1 a.m.
when he noticed two men loitering suspiciously after buying pies. r ‘l knew something was up when they came back,” he said. The men blocked the exits and one asked about spark plugs. "One person put a knife like a boning knife to my throat.” Mr Carey did not realise he had been cut across the left hand until the pair ran off. The police found more than $5OO in a search of the vehicle at Te Rapa.
