Super. limit urged

PA Auckland The Government should seriously consider deferring National Superannuation payments for people in paid employment until the age of 65, says an Auckland church leader.

The Auckland Methodist district superintendent, the Rev. Bruce Gordon, said more was paid to working people over 60, at a conservative estimate, than was paid in total unemployment benefits in 1981-82. The 1981 census showed that 54,000 people aged 60 or over remained in the workforce, Mr Gordon told the opening session of the Auckland Methodist Synod. “If the Government is really going to do something constructive in social welfare under the present economic conditions It must tackle the National Superannuation question,” Mr Gordon said.
