“Press” special dividend

The directors of the Christchurch Press Company, Ltd, have declared a special interim dividend of 6c a share payable on August 30. The directors are making this payment to give shareholders the benefit of a proportion of the capital profit arising from the company’s membership of the New Zealand Press Association.

Through its holding in Reuters, the NZPA has received its share of the proceeds from the float of Reuters Holdings PLC in Britian and the United States. The Inland Revenue Department has approved the payment made to NZPA members as a dividend declared from realised capital profits. For the purposes of payment of this dividend, the company’s share register will close at sp.m. on August 24, and reopen at 9 a.m. on August 27. This dividend will not affect the normal interim dividend payable in November.
