The Hong Kong Island eastern corridor winds its way along the waterfront. It will have the largest impact on traffic flow since the opening of the Cross Harbour Tunnel in 1972. The bypass has been built parallel to the shoreline, about 50 metres out to sea. Stage one of the project, 2.25km of urban expressway on 81 spans, will cost about $125 million.
