Extended South Island forecast until Friday: An intense anti-cyclone east of the Chatham Islands is slow-moving and a northeasterly flow covers New Zealand; a weak trough of low pressure over the Tasman Sea should move over New Zealand about Thursday, bringing scattered rain.
