Eighth hole-in-one for Williamson

David Williamson, a member of the Christchurch Golf Club, feels that his prime claim to sporting renown is as the father of the Canterbury and New Zealand representative, John Williamson. However, David Williamson has much more to offer than this. He has a fine record in Shirley and inter-club golf, and he is probably the Canterbury, if not the New Zealand leader, in the matter of holes in one.

He had his eighth ace at

McLeans Island on Tuesday, using a 4-iron at the 150 m seventeenth. Williamson, a caddy at Shirley in his youth, began playing golf in 1939. His first hole-fo-one was probably the most memorable. In company with Des Barkle (now of Waltikiri) he holed his tee shot at the first, a par-4 240 yard hole, at the old Akaroa course. Apart from Tuesday’s success, he has holed in one at Akaroa, twice at Harewood, and four times at Shirley.
