Sir,—What I observed in Moscow, Warsaw, Helsinki and Prague was confirmed on radio by the Rev. Ray Oppenheimer, who recently lived and worked in Russia and who speaks Russian. As M. Creel never discloses the authority for his arguments in “challenging slanderous allegations against the Soviet Union,” I have not accepted them over so many years. Although no valid reason has yet been advanced for excluding any human being from international sport, I agree that “concern should be personally expressed to the Afrikaners who control the South African Government,” especially by those who caused such strife and division here during 1981. M. Creel may cherish belief in “equal peoples of . the multi-racial Union who chose the happiness of being their own masters?’ etc.; but somehow I cannot help feeling that he uses Russia as he uses the United Kingdom, the United States, South Africa and Ireland — as a vent for political hangups. — Yours, etc,; E. MULCOCK. V August 9, 1984.
