Man fires rifle shots
PA Wellington Armed police late last evening surrounded a dwelling in Wainuiomata, from which a young man had earlier fired seven rifle shots. He later gave himself up. It was believed that three other adults and a child were in the house. Witnesses said the man had fired at anything that moved outside the building. Nobody was hit. Earlier, armed offenders squad members staked out a Wellington city house for three hours after shots were fired. Three youths walked out of the dwelling and surrendered soon after 10 p.m. Five rifles and a shotgun were seized from the house. No-one was threatened during the incident. Inspector Pat O’Neill said it appeared the incident involved “three young guys fooling around.” The house was surrounded and after appeals by the police, the youths, two aged 18, the other 15, left the house and were'arrested.
