Seminar on city traffic

A seminar to consider the effects of traffic on Christchurch people will be held at the W.E.A. Centre in Gloucester Street on Saturday. Six inner-city neighbourhood groups have organised the seminar, which will discuss traffic planning that still assumes that there will be more inner-city traffic in the fts&ire. Neighbourhood groups disagree with such assumptions.

The seminar will run from 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Before last year’s local body elections, the groups said that traffic problems should not be solved by shifting them from one community to another. They said the total amount of traffic entering the inner city should be reduced. Transport policies should have-a bias toward transport, bicycles, and pedestrians, they said.
